Homework No. 1, Due Thursday, September 9th, 5 pm

Problem 1: Getting familiar with SPICE.

To get (re)acquainted with SPICE and to ensure that your account is operational execute SOFTWARE LAB 1.  You may download/view the files below:

The labs are described on the EE141 Laboratory Information Page. Your homework write-up can be very short: simply include a printout of the SPICE input file and a plot of the transient response and the dc response of the NMOS inverter.

• You MUST run HSPICE and AWAVES on mingus.eecs.  To do this, just ssh to mingus.eecs, and follow the instructions dictated in Software Lab 1.
• If you want to use the PDF version, it is IMPORTANT that you make sure your version of Acrobat is 4.0 or higher!  Otherwise, the links to various web pages will be unavailable to you!
• To print your AWAVES plots, do the following:       

                From Cory - click on Tools/Print in AWAVES
                                     select "Panels: All", "Panels per Page: Many", "Print To: File" as the option, and select .PS as the printer format
                                                click on the print button, and in the resulting window, type in the desired filename (don't forget the .ps extension)

                                                After this is completed, return to your prompt and type in the following:
                                     lpr -Pprinter_name filename
                                    *Note: The printer_name is shown on the printer (not the color printer)
                                                             Using the lpr command is relevant for printing all files from UNIX

                From Home - maximize the screen with all the panels showing
                                                   press Alt-PrntScreen
                                                   open up your favorite photo editing program, and click on Edit/Paste
                                                   format the picture as you wish, save the resulting picture and print that out.
