Jim completed BSEE and MSEE at University of Michigan in 1977 and 1978 respectively. He joined National Semiconductor and developed early CMOS analog/mixed signal circuits for the voice communications market. The COMBO (Combined Codec + Filter) became an industry standard by which all others were measured and is still sold in the millions per year 18 years after starting production in 1984. Jim progressed through engineering in communications moving on to ISDN and ADSL technologies and leading the design group in these areas. In 1997 he became Director/VP of Analog/Mixed Signal Methodology and Cores development in the Core Technology Group focusing on Tools, Methods and fundamental SoC AMS building blocks. Starting 1999 Jim moved back to product development in the Networking group developing 10/100 and Gigabit LAN products as Director of Engineering. In 2002 he was promoted to Chief Technologist of the Wired Communications Group which develops Ethernet, High Speed Interface, Storage Networking and PC I/O products.
