Implementation and
Simulation of Picoradio Data Link Layer in VCC
Mei Xu, 2002 M.S.
(advisor: Jan Ranaey)
PicoRadio is a sensor network
project in the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) to develop low-cost meso-scale
ubiquitous transceiver nodes with minimal power dissipation. The nodes are
capable of self-organizing into an ad hoc wireless network without global
synchronization. Each node in the network has the same protocol stack, which
consists of a physical layer, a data link layer, a network layer and an
application layer. This report summarizes the modeling and simulation of the
data link layer using a development tool called VCC. VCC is a design platform
allowing you to integrate intellectual property models to simulate, evaluate and
select virtual components for various applications. In the VCC environment, the
behavior of the data link layer protocol is captured and simulated, and the
hardware/software architectural design space is explored by performance
analyses.
